  • Admission

Most students apply during their sophomore year and begin attending Buckeye Hills Career Center at the beginning of their junior year. In order for a student to qualify to attend Buckeye Hills, they must have earned the appropriate credits.

In November of the student’s sophomore year, they will have the opportunity to attend a Sophomore Visit Day at Buckeye Hills Career Center’s main campus. A Sophomore Open House evening for students & families is held after Sophomore Visit Days in mid-November, where families can tour campus and assistance with enrollment applications is available.

Attending Buckeye Hills Career Center allows students to work toward earning a Career Passport and Business and Industry Credentials. Students will also complete the Ohio Department of Education requirements for a high school diploma. Any student that is deficient in courses will meet with a counselor to develop a plan to correct the deficiencies.

    Credential Potential
Upon the successful completion of the high school credit requirements, students will receive a high school diploma from their home high school. Students that also successfully complete the Career Technical requirements for their program will receive a Career Technical Certificate from Buckeye Hills Career Center. Students also have the opportunity to earn additional program specific credentials recognized by business and industry and colleges and universities. Students that earn a Career Technical Certificate will receive a Career Passport. A Career Passport is a portfolio that documents the student’s achievements while attending the Buckeye Hills Career Center.

If you have questions concerning the application process or need more information about program offerings, please contact us at (740) 245-5334.

  • Career Advising

The Board views career advising as helping students understand themselves relative to their abilities, aptitudes, interests, attitudes, strengths and limitations. This process is meant to assist students in the development of their potential and their decisions relating to educational and career matters.

This policy is reviewed biennially and made available to students, parents, guardians/custodians, local postsecondary institutions and residents of the District. This policy is posted in a prominent location on the District website.

The District will do all of the following:

    1. Provide students with grade-level examples linking schoolwork to one or more career field(s) through use of the State Board adopted career connections.
    2. Create a plan to provide career advising to students in grades six through 12.
    3. Provide additional interventions and career advising for students who are identified as at risk of dropping out of school using both research- and locally-based methods developed with input from classroom teachers and guidance counselors.
    4. Train employees on advising students on career pathways, including the use of online tools.
    5. Develop multiple, clear academic pathways students can use to earn a high school diploma.
    6. Identify and publicize courses in which students can earn both traditional academic and career-technical credit.
    7. Document career advising provided to each student.
    8. Prepare students for their transition from high school to their postsecondary destinations.

Student success plans (SSP) are developed for students identified as at risk of dropping out of school. A SSP identifies the student’s chosen academic pathway to graduation and the role of career-technical and competency based education and experiential learning, as appropriate in that chosen pathway. The student’s parents, guardians or custodians are invited to assist in the development of the SSP. A copy of the SSP, a statement regarding the importance of a high school diploma and the academic pathways available to the student for successful graduation is provided to parents, guardians, or custodians who do not participate in development of the student’s SSP. Following SSP development, the District provides career advising aligned with the student’s individual plan and the District’s plan for career advising.

  • Cell Phone Guidelines

Students may use their phones before school (must be silenced at 8:20am bell), during their lunch period, between classes, and after school (cannot have them out before the 2:35pm bell). They are not to be used in the classroom and/or lab unless permitted by the instructor. Any electronic communication device is subject to confiscation. Additional violations of this prohibition will incur other, escalating disciplinary sanctions. Cell phone use at any other time is not permitted and may result in disciplinary action.

Remember, BHCC prohibits any recording of any kind, including, but not limited to, video, audio, or photos on school premises by the students. The severity of the punishment for violating this rule will be determined by the nature of the recording and the student’s past behavior record.

  • College Credit Plus (CCP)

Buckeye Hills Career Center would like to share with you information about College Credit Plus (CCP) opportunities that are available to our students. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. The CCP program allows students to take high school and college classes in addition to their Career Technical Lab.

Taking college courses while still in high school offers many benefits; however, there is important information that needs to be considered before making the decision to participate in this program. A major consideration must be given to the fact that students will be required to complete college level course work and therefore will receive a grade on their ability to complete such work. If a student is unsuccessful in the college course, they will receive an “F” on their college transcript, which will also be a part of their high school transcript. A low grade earned in a CCP class could negatively impact scholarship and financial aid eligibility. In addition, before a student can participate, they will be required to meet all of the college entrance requirements established by the institution.

Students who are interested in participating in the CCP Program next year should take the following steps:

    1. By April 1 notify the counselor at Buckeye Hills Career Center if you intend to participate in College Credit Plus next year. After April 1 you will need permission from the school principal or superintendent to participate.
    2. You and your family should contact colleges for information, application forms, and criteria for acceptance into College Credit Plus. Some materials are available from your high school counselor and at the college’s website. You must go through the procedures established by the colleges/universities to apply to CCP and to enroll in the course(s). You may have to take a college placement test to make sure you are college-ready.
    3. Prior to enrolling in a college class, talk to the Buckeye Hills counselor to determine a course’s equivalency to a high school course(s).

To learn more about College Credit Plus, please visit the College Credit Plus webpage.
